Will You Pay P 203,000 More to Have Your Car Hand-Assembled?
How much of a premium are you willing to pay to say that your Acura (Honda’s premium car division) is built off the same line that exclusively makes the NSX supercar? Well, if you don’t mind paying an extra USD 4,000 (~ P 203,440), there’s the ultra-exclusive TLX PMC Edition.
Based off the TLX, Acura’s mid-sized luxury sedan, the TLX PMC Edition doesn’t get any mechanical enhancements or anything of that sort. However, it does have one singular claim to fame: it’s built alongside the NSX at Honda’s Performance Manufacturing Center (PMC) in Ohio, USA.
Acura says the PMC was built with flexibility in mind, and the TLX PMC Edition is the first model to take advantage of that unique capability (after its run, the brand will also do an MDX PMC Edition as well).
The TLX PMC Edition shares the very same 290-horsepower direct-injected i-VTEC V6 engine and torque-vectoring Acura Super-Handling All-Wheel Drive system as the regular TLX, but will be distinguished by its special Valencia Red Pearl color—a color that used to be exclusive on the NSX.
With “nano pigment” technology, the Valencia Red Pearl produces exceptionally high color saturation and contrast. It’s applied in multiple base coats to enhance color intensity and two clear coats to increase the luster. The paint curing time alone takes 5 days.
More than just a special paint job, the TLX PMC Edition is pulled out of the main assembly line in body-in-white painted, and hand-assembled by master technicians at the PMC. It also gets special 19-inch wheels, a gloss black roof panel, and gloss black door handles. Inside, it has black leather seats with Alcantara inserts, a special steering wheel, and of course, a numbered serial plaque.
Finally, each TLX PMC Edition will undergo the same quality control process as NSX, including dyno check, final paint inspection, rough-road simulation, and water leak test. These PMC Editions will also be wrapped in a specially-designed car cover and shipped to a dealer via an enclosed car carrier.
