Lexus Bids Goodbye GS Sports Sedan with Eternal Touring Edition
After 27 years and four generations, Lexus is bidding adieu to its sporty GS sedan this August. And with Toyota’s announcement of the model’s discontinuation, they’re sending it off in style with this special “Eternal Touring” edition.
The Eternal Touring takes the GS F Sport models and adds “F” goodies such as black inserts in the spindle grille, wheels, door mirrors, and rear spoilers. For the GS350 and 450h, it adds orange brake calipers as well.
Inside, the Eternal Touring takes inspiration from the high-performance GS F model and adds tons of Alcantara (with red stitching). The changes are capped off by carbon fiber on the instrument cluster, center panels, and doors.
The current Lexus GS was launched in 2012 when it adopted the now iconic spindle grille. During its development, the carmaker drove it around the world including the Nürburgring, accumulating a million kilometers in the process.

Porsche Scores Double Win as 2020 World Luxury Car and World Performance Car of the Year
The Porsche Taycan scores a double win as the 2020 World Performance Car of the Year and 2020 World Luxury Car of the Year.
This is the sixth win for Porsche in the World Performance Car category, having previously won the category in 2017, 2014, 2013, 2012, and 2016. It’s the first with for the German automaker though in the World Luxury Car category.
It managed to beat its siblings—the Porsche 911 and Porsche 718 Boxster / Cayman GT4 for the World Performance Car title, while it beat out the Mercedes-Benz ECQ and Porsche 911 for the World Luxury Car title.
“The Porsche Taycan was designed with a clear purpose: To show that an electric car could provide the performance, driving pleasure and everyday comfort and usability that characterizes every Porsche. We are very proud that the international jury of the World Car Awards believes that we have succeeded”, said Oliver Blume, Chairman of the Executive Board, Porsche AG.
Vehicles were selected and voted on by an international jury panel comprising 86 prominent automotive journalists from 24 countries around the world. Each juror was appointed by the World Car Steering Committee on the basis of his or her expertise, experience, credibility, and influence. The international accounting firm KPMG tabulated the jurors’ ballots.
The all-electric Porsche Taycan is confirmed to make its Philippine debut some time in 2020.

The 2020 Audi A6 is the Upgrade of Upgrades
The all-new 2020 Audi A6 came at a time when the talk of the town was all about SUVs and crossovers. The shift in the spotlight puts focus on a segment that has taken a backseat for a good number of months in the past year: the mid-sized luxury sedan. That being said, the Audi A6 has a lot to be proud of. While it once had the aura that is likened to an accomplished middle-ager, it has since elevated with enhanced sportiness and modernity, keeping the understated elegance Audi is known for, intact. This gives it a bolder, more updated look that opens that A6 to a wider, younger market that is ready for its first upgrade.
Starting with the front-face, the A6 greets you with a strong, solid, but carefully rounded jawline that is held together by a low-set Singleframe grille. The matrix LED headlights with DRLs on either side balance out the powerful structure, giving it a friendlier demeanor. The side profile of the A6 is likewise well-thought of. The overall rounded edges are reminiscent of the German design heyday. Despite the sportiness of the front-face, the taut roofline seamlessly extends all the way to the base of the trunk, creating one fluid line from nose to tail—the epitome of minimalist design and structure. This is where Audi retains its signature elegance, in spite of the contemporary update.
Opening the door is what makes the Audi undoubtedly German. That whisper-like woosh that sounds like the release of a vacuum enclosure and the heavy, solid feel of the door itself tells you that this car was made for the long haul. Because it’s an Audi, you can expect nothing but the plushest interior finish, with luxurious, premium leather for the power seats and finishing, suede details; all combined with black, piano-gloss panels.
Taking centerstage is the all-digital Multi Media Interface touch response displays that house the car’s infotainment system, as well as climate control system. While the 10.1-inch monitor is impressively sleek, melting quietly into the dashboard’s dark, decorative surface, the functionality needs some work. The interface itself was a challenge to navigate, making it tedious to use while on the move.
Connectivity (via Bluetooth) was another issue. Even when your device has already been paired previously, the system fails to automatically detect the device the next time that you are in the vehicle. In this case, you would have to go through the MMI’s settings once again. Not the best thing to encounter when you’re already in a rush.
In terms of space, the front row is generous for both the driver and passenger, with wide individual seats and leg room that allows a comfortable stretch for those long journeys. The driver can expect adequate 4-way lumbar support and adjustable seat angling to make it easy on the knees. What is lacking here is the option for higher seat height. As it stands, the A6 is challenging for shorter individuals to see past its dome-like hood.
The backseat is slightly tighter than the front row. Because of the center hump, fitting three is possible, but the most comfortable would be two adults. Commendable though is the decision to add a full climate control system incorporated into the center console that mimics the main controls at the dashboard. The practicality of the A6 extends to its cargo hold, which is an impressive 388-liter trunk, too. Moreover, it has an electronically opening trunk lid (rare for sedans) that makes it convenient for loading and unloading.
Getting comfortable behind the wheel of the Audi A6 took some mental conditioning. The first is to disregard the fact that you are now about to drive a P 4.5-million car. The second is adjusting to the seat height. For a petite, average-height female, it was a challenge for me to easily see over the dome-like hood of the A6, even at the seat’s maximum height level. Lastly, since the MMI system took a while to get familiar with and the Bluetooth pairing did not automatically reconnect, I made sure all was synced and ready to go before taking off, which took a few good minutes, at best.
Still, the Audi A6 was made for the road. Its 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine did not disappoint as the power smoothly kicks in with every acceleration. It was responsive, but easy to control. The truth was, coming into this review on a clean slate, I did not even notice that it ran on a (7-speed) dual-clutch transmission, given the control and stability it offered. Normally, I experience a less-than-smooth experience with dual-clutch transmissions, but the A6 had none of that.
It was also surprisingly simple to maneuver through gritty, tight traffic, despite its actual width. Even when it was slightly difficult to see over the hood, the visibility around the rest of the vehicle was easy to estimate. Overall, the Audi A6 was a classic that you would look forward to driving every single day, because of ease and comfort, despite the city’s road congestion.
All things considered, the Audi A6 may not be the initial choice for a car, perhaps partly because of its price tag. But if that is the case, you’re not the target market for this car. It is, however, a great luxury sedan upgrade for those coming from a more mainstream executive sedan like the Honda Accord, Toyota Camry, or Mazda6. Think of the A6 as the car for the successful mogul that has gone through life’s ranks, rewarded himself, and is finally enjoying the fruits of his labor on his own terms.

Volvo Philippines Expands Plug-In Hybrid Line-Up to 3 Models
In line with Volvo Cars’ goal of reducing its emissions by 50 percent in terms of global sales, Volvo Cars Philippines expands its T8 Twin Engine plug-in hybrid offering to now include the XC60, S90, and XC90.
Volvo’s Plug-in Hybrid cars deliver a no-compromise combination of plug-in battery electric power and an efficient petrol engine that provides low to zero tailpipe emissions. The additional electric motor supports the combustion engine for low carbon dioxide emissions, and when driven in Pure electric mode, it can allow people to commute with zero tailpipe emissions.
It also delivers excellent flexibility with three drive modes to choose from. Volvo drivers can glide through their day with zero tailpipe fuel consumption in Pure electric mode, zoom through it in Power mode, or maximize efficiency and range with Hybrid mode.
Combined electric and petrol power gives effortless performance and a smooth, refined drive in all conditions.
Volvo’s Twin Engine set-up means that the high voltage battery is positioned in the tunnel console for maximum safety, and also improved weight distribution that gives an enhanced driving experience.
The T8 Twin Engine Technology features Electric Rear Axle Drive (ERAD) that propels the vehicle in electric mode, provides electric boost torque and power during acceleration, provides electric all wheel drive functionality, and performs brake energy recuperation.
Its crank-integrated starter generator (C-ISG) charges the battery while also acts as a starter for the combustion engine. It can support the combustion engine with electric boost power.
Volvo’s T8 Twin Engine Plug-in Hybrids also carry a high voltage traction battery to store energy. It receives energy from electric grid charging and also from regenerative braking of the vehicle or from the C-ISG. The high voltage battery delivers power for pure electric drive and also to run the electric air conditioning for pre-climatization of the passenger compartment.
The large battery gives an electric-only range of around 40 to 50 kilometers and can easily be charged at home or at a charging station. It’s also charged during driving every time you brake or slow down.
The hybrid range also enjoys an advanced cooling system. A base engine cooling circuit cools the C-ISG while one extra cooling circuit cools the ERAD and the power electronics. A second, extra cooling circuit, cools the battery in one of two ways; either passively, via the radiator, or actively, through integration with the car’s climate system.
The Volvo Philippines T8 Twin Engine Plug-In Hybrid range started first with the S90, and now expands to both the XC60 and XC90 SUVs. Pricing for the T8 Twin Engine line-up is as follows:
- Volvo S90 T8 Twin Engine - P 5,995,000
- Volvo XC60 T8 Twin Engine - P 5,795,000
- Volvo XC90 T8 Twin Engine - P 7,995,000

The Audi A6 Returns for 2020; Prices Start at P 4.5 Million
The BMW 5 Series and Mercedes-Benz E-Class better watch out: the all-new 2020 Audi A6 is now in the country, boasting enhanced sportiness, comfort, and digitalization.
An “ambassador” of the new Audi design language, the A6 has a truly elegant design with a taut roofline and short overhangs. It’s the roomiest and widest in the mid-sized luxury sedan segment. Upfront, it has a wide, low-set Singleframe grille with air inlets and matrix LED headlights with DRLs on both sides.
On its side, a contour stretches across the top section of the sheet metal body, which starts as an edge in the hood and ends at the rear as a separating edge. In the associated lower section, pronounced aerodynamic elements emphasize the side view of the vehicle. The C-pillar is much flatter and the entire window line much more dynamic than before.
At the rear, a chrome strip emphasizes the impression of width of the A6 and provides a link between the two rear lights. The wedge-shaped rear lights, which end externally in vertical segments, also contribute to the impression of width. They are part of the rear sculpture and with their aerodynamic finishing touches that attest to the Sedan’s high-tech character.
The interior creates a futuristic, minimalist feel; thanks to the sleek instrument panel with a technical black-panel design dominates that impressively combines form and function. The driver and front passenger experience a generous space in which the architecture fuses seamlessly with the user interface. In front of the driver is Audi’s 12.3-inch Virtual Cockpit with a high-resolution display.
Meanwhile, the center console and the all-digital Multi Media Interface (MMI) touch response displays are angled slightly toward the driver. The MMI touch with haptic feedback response system, compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, provides intuitive operation and even more personalization. When switched off, the 10.1-inch screen top display is incorporated almost invisibly into the dark decorative surface. Meanwhile, the bottom 8.6-inch display, located in the console in the center tunnel, is used for the climate control, the convenience and vehicle functions as well as the text input. Ambient interior lighting and Bang & Olufsen 3D Premium Surround Sound complete the package.
Under the hood, the all-new Audi A6 is powered by a 2.0-liter TFSI turbocharged 4-cylinder gasoline engine. Fitted with Mild Hybrid Engine Technology and mated to a 7-speed dual clutch transmission, it generates a total of 245 horsepower and 370 Nm of torque. Matching this capable engine is an extremely comfortable ride brought by the upgraded wheel suspension made extensively from lightweight aluminum, paired with 18-inch cast aluminum wheels. The suspension combines smooth ride comfort and unshakable stability with enhanced sportiness.
The all-new 2020 Audi A6 starts at around P 4.5 million and is available for viewing at all Audi showrooms nationwide: Greenhills, Global City, Alabang, and SM Seaside Cebu.

Will You Pay P 203,000 More to Have Your Car Hand-Assembled?
How much of a premium are you willing to pay to say that your Acura (Honda’s premium car division) is built off the same line that exclusively makes the NSX supercar? Well, if you don’t mind paying an extra USD 4,000 (~ P 203,440), there’s the ultra-exclusive TLX PMC Edition.
Based off the TLX, Acura’s mid-sized luxury sedan, the TLX PMC Edition doesn’t get any mechanical enhancements or anything of that sort. However, it does have one singular claim to fame: it’s built alongside the NSX at Honda’s Performance Manufacturing Center (PMC) in Ohio, USA.
Acura says the PMC was built with flexibility in mind, and the TLX PMC Edition is the first model to take advantage of that unique capability (after its run, the brand will also do an MDX PMC Edition as well).
The TLX PMC Edition shares the very same 290-horsepower direct-injected i-VTEC V6 engine and torque-vectoring Acura Super-Handling All-Wheel Drive system as the regular TLX, but will be distinguished by its special Valencia Red Pearl color—a color that used to be exclusive on the NSX.
With “nano pigment” technology, the Valencia Red Pearl produces exceptionally high color saturation and contrast. It’s applied in multiple base coats to enhance color intensity and two clear coats to increase the luster. The paint curing time alone takes 5 days.
More than just a special paint job, the TLX PMC Edition is pulled out of the main assembly line in body-in-white painted, and hand-assembled by master technicians at the PMC. It also gets special 19-inch wheels, a gloss black roof panel, and gloss black door handles. Inside, it has black leather seats with Alcantara inserts, a special steering wheel, and of course, a numbered serial plaque.
Finally, each TLX PMC Edition will undergo the same quality control process as NSX, including dyno check, final paint inspection, rough-road simulation, and water leak test. These PMC Editions will also be wrapped in a specially-designed car cover and shipped to a dealer via an enclosed car carrier.
