Concerned with improving its performance on the race track, Honda has come up with a hotted-up version of its Civic Type R for 2020: the Civic Type R Limited Edition.
Admittedly, the name could be snazzier, but there’s no denying what’s in store for hardcore drivers here: a focus on weight reduction. It is, says Honda, the most extreme version of the Civic Type R ever made.
Sadly, none will be made available for the Philippine market, but for those who’re willing to import one either via the US or Europe (both of these markets are confirmed to get allocations), the Civic Type R Limited Edition is fitted with lightweight 20-inch forged BBS alloy wheels with Michelin Cup 2 tires. The electronic dampers have also been recalibrated to optimize this new wheel and tire combination, as has the steering system.
Continuing its track-focused nature, the infotainment and air conditioning system have been removed to save weight. The sound-deadening material has also been reduced in the roof, rear hatch panel, front bumper, and dashboard. Overall, the Civic Type R Limited Edition weighs 47 kilograms less than the regular Type R and that’s despite the addition of Honda SENSING driver assist safety suite.
Together with the weight loss, the Civic Type R Limited Edition remains powered by the 2.0-liter VTEC Turbo engine making 320 horsepower and 400 Nm. According to Honda, 0-100 km/h is dispatched in just 5.7 seconds.
Further reflecting its place as a limited-edition model, this Civic Type R gets a new color: Sunlight Yellow along with a dark chrome Civic at the badge, contrasting gloss black paint on the roof, wing mirrors, and hood intake vent. Inside, it gets red bucket seats, a red Alcantara steering wheel, and a teardrop shaped gear knob. The badging located near the shifter also notes not just the production serial number, but also its original country of sale.
Honda has opted not to release any pricing details yet, but expect this to be more expensive than the regular Civic Type R.
