This is Suzuki's Rush, BR-V Fighter: Meet the 2020 XL6

Suzuki has finally blown the covers off the high-riding version of its Ertiga MPV: the XL6, and unlike its rivals from Toyota and Honda (and the added body cladding), they’re still calling this an MPV.

Compared to the Ertiga on which it’s based off on, the XL6 features an entirely new front-end that raises the hood for a stronger, more imposing stance. Suzuki is introducing a new “cross-bar” design element that sweeps into the LED headlights to give it a bolder look. The XL6 also gets all-black alloy wheels, roof rails, and side cladding to complete the SUV-like transformation.

Inside, the XL6 features a rather peculiar 6-seater arrangement (2+2+2). The all-black interior features a stone-like finish that replaces the wood grain one found in the Ertiga. The second-row captain’s seats are individually reclineable, but can be made to recline and slide with one touch to offer entry into the third row. Other than the unique second row, it’s pretty much the Ertiga down to the flat-bottom leather steering wheel and sweeping dashboard with a horizontal slat motif.

In terms of features, the Suzuki XL6 gets ventilated cup holders, accessory sockets for all three rows, and a dual A/C system.

Mechanically, the Suzuki XL6 uses the same K15 engine with 103 horsepower and 138 Nm of torque. In its home market of India though, it’s available with Suzuki’s Smart Hybrid tech. The available transmissions remain the same: a 5-speed MT or 4-speed AT. And based on Suzuki’s 5th Generation HEARTECT platform, the XL6 features dual SRS airbags, ABS with EBD, stability control with hill hold function, and reverse parking sensors all as standard equipment.

The 2020 Suzuki XL6 is available in India in 6 shades and in two variants: the Zeta and Alpha. The base Zeta starts at 979,689 Indian Rupee (~ P 714,789) and tops out at 1,146,189 Indian Rupee (~ P 836,269).

It’s too early to say whether Suzuki Philippines will bring in the XL6 for the local market. However, given the popularity of their Ertiga MPV (it’s currently the brand’s best-selling car), it makes sense for them to corner the market dominated by the likes of the Rush and BR-V.
