Toyota is Launching a Yaris-Based SUV
Toyota is showing the flexibility of its TNGA (Toyota New Global Architecture) by announcing that they’re coming up with a Hyundai Venue/Nissan Juke rivaling SUV based on the all-new Yaris.
Thanks to the flexibility of the GA-B platform which underpins the all-new Yaris, Toyota can alter its width, length, wheelbase, and height.
So far, Toyota hasn’t revealed any official detail of its all-new Yaris-based SUV, except for a stylized silhouette. That said, it’s expected to slot below the C-HR though in terms of positioning and price. In terms of powertrain, the safe bet is that it’ll share the Yaris’s 1.5-liter 3-cylinder engine and perhaps its hybrid system too.
Now, while this news is interesting, Toyota did say that this new sub-compact SUV will be built for European tastes. And besides, it’s worth remembering that Toyota also has the Raize. Developed on a Daihatsu platform, the Raize may be a more logical choice for the Japanese automaker to bring into the ASEAN region, especially since they’ve announced that they’ll be releasing it for international markets as well.
