The Honda Civic Cyber Night Japan Cruiser 2020 Re-imagines the EK9 Type R for the Modern Era
1990s nostalgia kicks into high gear over at Honda’s display at the Tokyo Auto Salon 2020. Reviving the classic Civic Type R EK9, Honda Access has given it a contemporary makeover and a badass name: Civic Cyber Night Japan Cruiser 2020.
Said to reimagine how tuners would approach the EK9 this decade, the Civic Cyber Night Japan Cruiser 2020 receives LED lighting on both ends. However, it wasn’t just a case of slapping on new bulbs. Instead, the lamp clusters have been covered up with DRLs made to trace the original one’s outline while the headlights reworked with new projector-type elements.
Lights aside, the Civic Cyber Night Japan Cruiser 2020 also gets new bumpers with more aggressive looking vents at the front and the exhaust neatly integrated into the rear. The rear plate has been relocated to the bottom portion of the bumper, while the tailgate itself features a full-length black strip with an illuminated “Civic” logo done in period-appropriate font type. Turbine-style 17-inch alloy wheels with pink “Cyber” logos and new side mirrors complete the exterior highlights.
Inside, the Civic Civic Cyber Night Japan Cruiser 2020 gets Recaro racing buckets and a three-spoke Momo steering wheel. Interestingly, it does get modern-day touches such as a digital gauge cluster and touch panel climate control.
Currently, Honda hasn’t given any details on whether or not they’ll offer some of the Civic Cyber Night Japan Cruiser 2020’s parts for sale under their Modulo brand, but this does give some inspiration for those looking to customize their Civic.
