Dongfeng President to Take Reigns at Nissan Motor
Nissan is hoping three time’s the charm. After the sacking of Carlos Ghosn and the departure of Hiroto Saikawa, the Japanese carmaker is appointing Makoto Uchida as their new chief operating officer (CEO). He will take the top spot no later than January 1 of next year.
Uchida is currently the President of Dongfeng Motors and has helped run Nissan’s operations in China since 2018.
Along with Uchida’s appointment to the top spot, Nissan also appointed Mitsubishi Motors’ current Chief Operating Officer Ashwani Gupta as their new chief operating officer (COO).
Taking over falling sales and profits globally, Uchida is said to be the best man to revitalize Nissan. From here, the company is committed to refresh all current models, introduce 20 new ones, and expand its electric vehicle offerings.
For the sake of optimization, Nissan will also cut their global capacity by 10 percent and cut around 12,500 jobs worldwide.
