Subaru is the King of the Nürburgring as They Win 6th 24-Hour Endurance Crown
Subaru has proven itself to be the king of the Nürburgring after it took home yet another class win at this year’s 24-hour endurance race.
Running in the SP3T class (a class composed of cars running turbocharged 2.0-liter engines or less), the Subaru WRX STI NBR Challenge 2019, based on the production VA WRX STI, completed 145 laps finishing ahead of Audi, Volkswagen, and Opel. Subaru finished 19th overall.
Interestingly enough, Subaru managed to finish ahead of the Toyota GR Supra (41st overall) and Lexus RC F GT3 (42nd overall). The Supra, at its first 24-hour endurance race after the production car was unveiled finished third to the Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT4 (28th overall) and BMW M4 GT4 (51st overall).
This year’s victory marks the second consecutive class win for Subaru and its sixth title all in all at what’s called one of the most challenging race tracks in the world.
An Audi R8 LMS took the overall honors at this year’s race after the leading Porsche 911 GT3 R was penalized for speeding in a 120 km/h zone (the car was recorded doing 172 km/h) and ignoring double yellow flags.
