The All-New 2020 Chery Tiggo 7 is the "Anti-Epidemic SUV"
Chery Auto officially launches the all-new second-generation Tiggo 7 compact SUV, a product that will spearhead the carmaker’s strong product offensive post COVID-19 China.
Launched online, the 2020 Tiggo 7 adopts a brand-new design language penned by former Tata designer Ajay Parameswaran. Upfront, it’s characterized by the new “Sunshine Galaxy” grille; at the side, a floating roof; and at the back, ray-pattern LED taillights. At each corner are available 19-inch wheels.
Inside, Chery Auto promises a higher level of quality in the all-new Tiggo 7. It adopts soft-touch plastics and double-stitched leather, while careful consideration was done in regards to its interior materials and appointments. Available features include a large 1.1-square-meter panoramic sunroof and Qi wireless charging.
Unsurprisingly, it hops on the “intelligent climate control” with an N95-grade anti-bacterial filtering system, negative ion sterilization, and even a remote active interior self-cleaning system. Considering all this, Chery calls the all-new Tiggo 7 an “anti-epidemic SUV.”
Powering the 2020 Tiggo 7 is either a 1.5- or 1.6-liter engine, both turbocharged. Chery says the 1.5-liter unit has a thermal efficiency of 37.1 percent—comparable to that of luxury brands while still developing 156 horsepower and 230 Nm of torque. This is mated to a 9-speed CVT transmission. Meanwhile, for variants using the 1.6-liter, it’s a third-generation ACTECO direct injected turbocharged engine making 197 horsepower and 290 Nm of torque. In this case, it’s mated to a 7-speed wet-type dual clutch automatic. In either case, the shifter has now migrated to an electronic system.
The second-generation Tiggo 7 also makes huge leaps in terms of driver assistive technology. Chery says it comes with 19 driver assist features giving it Level 2 autonomous driving capability. These include full-speed adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, blind spot detection, autonomous emergency braking, and door opening blind spot collision.
For now, the Tiggo 7 is available only in its home market of China, where it will be sold alongside the current Tiggo 7 for the time being. With the increase in specs and technology, prices have gone up as much as 20 percent for the 2020 model.
