You Can Now Make Your 2020 Toyota RAV4 Look Like a Lamborghini Urus

If you find the sharp and angular 2020 Toyota RAV4 still a bit too ordinary, well, a Japan-based body kit maker will make it look a bit more exotic; by transforming it into a “budget” Lamborghini Urus.

Offered by a company called Albermo, the XR51 body kit transforms the RAV4 into Lamborghini’s best-selling ultra-luxury SUV.

The body kit works its magic with the front bumper, where it’s been shaped to look like the Urus’s. The kit is compatible too with RAV4s equipped with the Toyota Safety Sense and front corner sensors, so that’s good. The rear also gets the Urus treatment. Though not as wild as the front, the bumpers do get the corner vents and reflectors.

Pricing doesn’t come cheap. The Lambo-esque front already sets you back around 138,000 yen (P 66,000~). Then, there’s the rear spoiler which is an additional 78,000 yen (P 37,000~), and the side skirt extensions for 16,000 yen (P 7,600~). No pricing for the rear bumper has been announced yet.

These are the Full Specs, Brochure of the 2020 Geely Azkarra

One of the car launches greatly affected by the Enhanced Community Quarantine is this: the Geely Azkarra. Supposed to have launched at the Manila International Auto Show (MIAS), local distributor Sojitz G Auto Philippines instead had to press pause to all activities surrounding its compact SUV.

Still, before the ECQ, Geely was able to reveal some of the Azkarra’s vital statistics—there will be two variants, a 4x2 Premium that costs P 1.438 million, and a 4x4 Luxury that bumps up the price to P 1.598 million. Both share the same engine with the Coolray—a turbocharged 1.5-liter 3-cylinder engine with 177 horsepower and 255 Nm of torque, though the 4x4 Luxury adds a mild-hybrid system that bumps up the figures to 190 horsepower and 300 Nm of torque. It also comes with an N95-certified air filtration system perfect in this COVID-19 world, too.

The rest of the Azkarra’s details—specs, features, and the like were supposed to come out at MIAS. But with the official launch scuttled, those juicy bits remained a mystery, until now. Forget the Golf, This is Volkswagen's Best-Selling Vehicle in the World

If you think the Golf is Volkswagen’s best-selling vehicle, think again. Last year, that record goes to the Tiguan compact SUV.

Sold in 80 percent of all countries on earth, 910,926 units of the Tiguan were made in 2019 making it the best-selling vehicle in the entire Volkswagen brand and Volkswagen group. Not only is it the most successful compact SUV in Europe, but it’s one of the three post popular SUVs in the world. In fact, it’s the top-selling model in four time zones across three continents.

Volkswagen reckons that a Tiguan rolled off the production line every 35 seconds at one of the company’s Tiguan factories last year. This fast rate of production reflects the rapid development of the Tiguan. Introduced to the world for the first time at the Frankfurt Motor Show back in 2007, it’s seen a meteoric rise since then. A significantly updated version of the best-seller was unveiled in 2011. It was a resounding success: the annual Tiguan volume subsequently broke the 500,000 barrier for the first time.

In 2017, Volkswagen introduced a long wheelbase version which gave it another major sales boost. Today, 55 percent of all Tiguan models leaving the production line sport the extended wheelbase.

The Tiguan is currently manufactured at four Volkswagen plants across four time zones, thus ensuring almost round-the-clock production. It’s produced at the main plant in Wolfsburg, Germany; in Kaluga, Russia; in Shanghai, China; and in Puebla, Mexico.

In just two generations, the Tiguan has become one of the most successful SUVs in the world selling 6 million examples. This year, the next chapter will unfold with a major technical and visual update, including a plug-in hybrid version for the very first time.

Someone Just Leaked How the 2021 Nissan X-Trail Looks Like

Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, Nissan’s still adamant to push through with several new production introductions this year, including the all-new X-Trail.

In what appear to be leaked brochure photos, the 2021 X-Trail (aka Rogue in the U.S.) dons a more angular body with a larger V-motion grille and re-designed headlights reminiscent of the Juke. It also gets a more upright greenhouse for a tougher-looking stance.

Thankfully, Nissan seems to be addressing the X-Trail’s biggest weakness by giving it a decidedly more upscale interior complete with quilted leather seats, a large tablet-like floating infotainment screen, and available all digital instrumentation.

Not much is known about the upcoming X-Trail’s powertrain and platform, but it’s understood that it’ll be available in a variety of 4-cylinder engines and what looks to be some sort of terrain management system for the all-wheel drive variant.

The X-Trail is supposed to bow in the third or fourth quarter of this year at least in other markets such as Japan and the U.S.

The All-New 2020 Chery Tiggo 7 is the "Anti-Epidemic SUV"

Chery Auto officially launches the all-new second-generation Tiggo 7 compact SUV, a product that will spearhead the carmaker’s strong product offensive post COVID-19 China.

Launched online, the 2020 Tiggo 7 adopts a brand-new design language penned by former Tata designer Ajay Parameswaran. Upfront, it’s characterized by the new “Sunshine Galaxy” grille; at the side, a floating roof; and at the back, ray-pattern LED taillights. At each corner are available 19-inch wheels.

Inside, Chery Auto promises a higher level of quality in the all-new Tiggo 7. It adopts soft-touch plastics and double-stitched leather, while careful consideration was done in regards to its interior materials and appointments. Available features include a large 1.1-square-meter panoramic sunroof and Qi wireless charging.

Unsurprisingly, it hops on the “intelligent climate control” with an N95-grade anti-bacterial filtering system, negative ion sterilization, and even a remote active interior self-cleaning system. Considering all this, Chery calls the all-new Tiggo 7 an “anti-epidemic SUV.”

Powering the 2020 Tiggo 7 is either a 1.5- or 1.6-liter engine, both turbocharged. Chery says the 1.5-liter unit has a thermal efficiency of 37.1 percent—comparable to that of luxury brands while still developing 156 horsepower and 230 Nm of torque. This is mated to a 9-speed CVT transmission. Meanwhile, for variants using the 1.6-liter, it’s a third-generation ACTECO direct injected turbocharged engine making 197 horsepower and 290 Nm of torque. In this case, it’s mated to a 7-speed wet-type dual clutch automatic. In either case, the shifter has now migrated to an electronic system.

The second-generation Tiggo 7 also makes huge leaps in terms of driver assistive technology. Chery says it comes with 19 driver assist features giving it Level 2 autonomous driving capability. These include full-speed adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, blind spot detection, autonomous emergency braking, and door opening blind spot collision.

For now, the Tiggo 7 is available only in its home market of China, where it will be sold alongside the current Tiggo 7 for the time being. With the increase in specs and technology, prices have gone up as much as 20 percent for the 2020 model.

From Niche to Mainstream: How the Toyota RAV4 Created the Compact Crossover Segment

When the first-generation Toyota RAV4 was revealed at the Geneva Motor Show in March 1994, few could have anticipated how this new concept would reshape the automotive industry. Since then, it ignited a whole new market for compact, agile, and versatile compact crossovers—SUVs ideally suited to modern life.

The RAV4 was an original, heralding a new era for SUVs and the response was immediately positive. From the outset, it was a global model: sales started in Japan in May 1994, followed by Europe, Africa, Australia, and Latin America the following month. Its North American debut came in January 1996.

Initial production estimates were for 4,500 sales a month, but when 8,000 orders were taken in the first month alone, production volumes were doubled. RAV4 paved the way for a whole new SUV segment that has not stopped growing since: more than a quarter of a century on from its debut, RAV4 was the world’s best-selling SUV in 2018 and 2019, and in 2019 was the fourth best-selling passenger car overall.

The ideas behind the RAV4 (Recreational Active Vehicle with 4-wheel drive) were first expressed in the RAV-FOUR concept car at the 1989 Tokyo Motor Show, indicating Toyota’s interest in creating a compact all-wheel drive model. This was just a design study, with none of the detail required for an actual development model, but it gained an enthusiastic welcome from the public. In 1991, the project was given the green light and development work began.

The Chief Engineer for the RAV4 project, Masakatsu Nonaka, found that it wasn’t easy to convince other Toyota departments that a new mass-production car should be created in a market segment that didn’t yet exist. The term “Sports Utility Vehicle” was still unknown and there were many within Toyota who simply couldn’t grasp the concept of such a compact 4x4. In fact, internal resistance even stalled the project at one point, but support from an unexpected quarter gave it new life.

Toyota’s Japanese and European sales divisions, being in close contact with market, believed the time was right for this type of car. Together they put the project back on track, and they were proven right: very soon after the RAV4’s launch it was being widely acclaimed as a new trendsetter.

The compact SUV market that Toyota created quickly flourished. Toyota sold around 53,000 RAV4 in 1994, doubling, then tripling the total in the next two years. Sales continued to grow with each successive generation, even as almost every competitor manufacturer brought their own models to the market. In 2019, global RAV4 sales were more than 17 times the total achieved in the model’s first year.

This enduring success owes much to Toyota’s constant improvement of the product. With each new generation, it has listened to the comments of motorists and adapted the vehicle’s size, functionality, performance, and styling to meet the market’s changing preferences and requirements.

For example, the third generation saw the spare wheel moved from its position on the back door, giving the car a more sophisticated appearance. And with the fourth generation, the wheelbase was standardized worldwide. The three-door model had been discontinued earlier so that now RAV4 was exclusively a five-door vehicle and more spacious than ever before.

Toyota also kept RAV4 technically advanced, introducing new vehicle platforms and developing intelligent all-wheel drive systems that combined better handling with more efficient performance, both on-road and off. Even during the lifetime of the first-generation model, Toyota recognized that all-wheel drive was not a requirement for all customers, and so expanded the model’s appeal with the option of two-wheel drive.

Where powertrains were concerned, the choice was tailored to suit the demands of different world markets, including gasoline and diesel engines, and even hybrids. Again, the focus was on efficiency and performance appropriate to the vehicle’s role as an urban SUV, equipped to accommodate families, or as an ideal partner for people who enjoy active lifestyles.

The most current RAV4 is the first SUV to be built on Toyota’s TNGA GA-K modular platform. With a low center of gravity and significantly greater body rigidity, it contributes to better handling, a more spacious interior, and class-leading space. Their work paid off handsomely by winning the 2019-2020 Japan Car of the Year.

Toyota Just Made Its 10 Millionth RAV4

The RAV4 has joined the ranks of Toyota models that have achieved eight-figure sales. Cumulative figures for the compact SUV passed 10 million at the end of February this year, spanning five generations of the vehicle manufactured since 1994.

As a global Toyota model, the RAV4 has gone from strength to strength since its launch. Having originated the market segment for new kind of compact, agile, recreational SUV, it has continued to set standards, with sales reaching new heights.

In 2019, the RAV4 was not only the world’s best-selling SUV, it was also the fourth best-selling passenger car overall. North America is by far its strongest market, with more than half a million annual sales (535,000 in 2019), followed by Europe (133,000), and China (127,000).

The most recent RAV4 marks an important evolution with the introduction of the new RAV4 Plug-In Hybrid. Not only does this offer emissions free driving, but with 302 horsepower, it satisfies the craving of the most discerning speed freak. 0-100 km/h arrives in around 6 seconds, while delivering a pure electric range of 62 kilometers.

Subaru Launches the 2020 Forester GT Edition for P 2.120M

After a series of previews in Singapore, Motor Image Pilipinas, the exclusive distributor of Subaru vehicles in the Philippines has finally revealed the pricing of this special edition model. If you’re standing at the moment, we encourage you to sit down and take a deep breath.

Are you ready?

It starts at P 2,070,000. We say, “it starts at,” because while there’s just one variant of the Forester GT Edition officially, the pricing is determined whether it’s based off an MY2019 or MY2020 Forester 2.0i-S. The price we quoted is for an MY2019. If you want an MY2020 Forester GT Edition, the price goes up to P 2.120 million.

If you’re keeping track, that’s a P 102,000 premium over the Forester 2.0i-S on which the GT Edition’s based on. For that added premium, you get a body kit designed exclusively for Motor Image by Subaru’s “hitmaker” Mr. Masahiko “Jack” Kobayashi.

Like his work on the Subaru XV GT Edition, the Forester GT Edition receives integral aero elements such as a front bumper extension, side skirts, roof spoiler, and rear bumper extension. The body kit itself is made in Japan by engineering company Giken. This is complemented by a set of five-spoke 18-inch alloy wheels with a “GT” labeled center cap.

Inside, it gets a two-tone black and gray leather seats as well as a new 8-inch Panasonic Display Audio System which gets Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard. And like the rest of the Forester and Subaru XV models, the Forester GT Edition gets the SAR 360—Superview Around Recognition camera as well.

The Subaru Forester GT Edition was supposed to be Motor Image Pilipinas’s main highlight at the Manila International Auto Show. Given that MIAS organizers have opted to postpone the annual motor show, Motor Image Pilipinas says that sales of the Forester GT Edition start immediately.

The colors available are: Crystal Black Pearl, Crystal White Pearl, Dark Gray Metallic, Ice Silver Metallic, Crimson Red Pearl, and Sepia Bronze Metallic.
