These are the Full Specs, Brochure of the 2020 Geely Azkarra

One of the car launches greatly affected by the Enhanced Community Quarantine is this: the Geely Azkarra. Supposed to have launched at the Manila International Auto Show (MIAS), local distributor Sojitz G Auto Philippines instead had to press pause to all activities surrounding its compact SUV.

Still, before the ECQ, Geely was able to reveal some of the Azkarra’s vital statistics—there will be two variants, a 4x2 Premium that costs P 1.438 million, and a 4x4 Luxury that bumps up the price to P 1.598 million. Both share the same engine with the Coolray—a turbocharged 1.5-liter 3-cylinder engine with 177 horsepower and 255 Nm of torque, though the 4x4 Luxury adds a mild-hybrid system that bumps up the figures to 190 horsepower and 300 Nm of torque. It also comes with an N95-certified air filtration system perfect in this COVID-19 world, too.

The rest of the Azkarra’s details—specs, features, and the like were supposed to come out at MIAS. But with the official launch scuttled, those juicy bits remained a mystery, until now. Sojitz G was kind enough to give us a full copy of the Azkarra’s feature set, including the full brochure if you scroll below:

Geely PH Confirms: Upcoming Azkarra Will Have Its Advanced Air Filtration System

Two days after we reported that Geely Auto is launching an innovative in-car air filtration system, called the Intelligent Air Purification System (IAPS), Sojitz G Auto Philippines, the distributor of Geely in the Philippines has confirmed that its upcoming Azkarra compact SUV will come fitted with the new system.

As a recap, the G-Clean Intelligent Air Purification System (IAPS) uses a two-prone approach—an activated carbon chemical filter and a negative ion generator to sterilize and deodorize nasty stuff, including viruses.

With that, Sojitz G Auto Philippines says that its new Azkarra SUV launching in April, as well as 2020 Model Year Coolray sub-compact SUVs will be fitted with IAPS.

Focusing on the CN95 high-efficiency filter, it blocks at least 95 percent of particles and droplets measuring 0.3 microns in diameter—equivalent to wearing an N95 mask. And while viruses are much smaller (0.06 to 0.14 microns), because it’s carried by droplets, the filter can pretty much catch them.

In addition, the filter also has antibacterial properties—removing 95 percent of E.coli and 99 percent of staphylococcus aureus. It can also absorb smoky smells, odor, and even resist 90 percent of allergens including pollen and dust mites.

It’s worth noting that while Geely doesn’t 100 percent guarantee that its system will prevent a COVID-19 infection, at this point, the smallest of things add up.

Geely PH Prices Azkarra Hybrid Compact SUV; Tops Out at P 1.598M

Sojitz G Auto Philippines (SGAP) kicks off the pre-selling activity for its upcoming model, the new Geely Azkarra. The pre-selling activity features exciting incentives for customers who will reserve a unit before the actual delivery in April 2020.

Setting a competitive price range among compact SUVs, the Geely Azkarra will have of as low as P 1,438,000 for its 4x2 Premium variant and P 1,598,000 for the real-time four-wheel drive 48V EMS (Electric Motor Synergy) Luxury variant.

The Azkarra uses a mild-hybrid system paired to a 1.5-liter turbocharged 3-cylinder engine shared with the Coolray. Thanks to the combined power of a force-induction motor and an electric motor, the Azkarra will develop more than 190 horsepower and 300 Nm of torque.

For the pre-selling campaign, Geely will offer a P 100,000 incentive as savings from the SRP and free comprehensive insurance for every reservation. These incentives apply for paid reservations of P 10,000 from March 9, 2020 to April 24, 2020.

SGAP considers the Azkarra as Geely’s next generation compact SUV that will give its customers their well-deserved refined ride. Geely is starting to create a new-generation Chinese vehicle in the Philippines’s mainstream automotive market.

UPDATED: Geely Beats Subaru to the Punch, Launches First Hybrid Compact SUV in the Philippines

UPDATE: The Geely Azkarra has been priced. Details here. (3/11).

Sojitz G Auto Philippines (SGAP), the distributor of Geely automobiles has revealed the official name of its upcoming compact SUV: the Azkarra. And copying the launch playbook of its sub-compact crossover sibling, the Coolray, the Azkarra is going on tour starting today.

Unlike the Coolray which is underpinned by a Volvo-derived BMA platform, the Azkarra (aka Bo Yue Pro or “Exceedingly Rich” in China) uses the proprietary Geely NL platform. It’s also a much older vehicle, sold already in its home market in China since 2016—two years earlier than the Coolray. It was refreshed in 2018, though. That being said, it does manage to retain the same “Volvo-esque” look, and that’s down to ex-Volvo designer Peter Horbury being responsible for the exterior lines.

SGAP didn’t reveal much in terms of specs, aside from the fact that that it will use a mild-hybrid powertrain. This means it will beat the Subaru Forester e-BOXER as the first hybrid offering in the compact SUV segment.

Weirdly enough, the quoted 0-100 km/h times is a leisurely 8.9 seconds. But even if it cannot run on pure electric power alone, Geely says it can still do 17.24 km/L.

You can be one of the first to see the all-new Geely Azkarra at the following locations:
  • March 9-15, Uptown Mall Atrium C
  • March 16-31, Trinoma Mall L4 – Cinema Lobby
  • March 19-April 1, SM Mall of Asia – Main Mall

UPDATED: Geely PH to Introduce Hybrid Tech in Their Upcoming Compact SUV

UPDATE: It has been officially named as the Geely Azkarra (3/11).

Geely is taking a bold step by introducing its very own gasoline-electric hybrid technology into its upcoming compact SUV. The yet unnamed offering may beat the Subaru Forester e-BOXER as the country’s first electrified compact SUV.

The compact SUV will pair a 1.5-liter turbo-charged gasoline engine complemented by a 48-volt belt-starter generator (BSG) integrated in the Front-End Accessory Drive (FEAD) of the engine, a 48-volt to 12 DC/DC converter, a 48-volt lithium-ion battery module and battery management system (BMS), along with a recuperation braking system and a hybrid module control system.

Sojitz G Auto Philippines Corp. (SGAP) President & CEO Mikihisa Takayama said, “Hybrid and electric vehicle technology is becoming increasingly popular in the auto industry. This is where the future is heading to. 2020 is definitely going to be a landmark year for Geely in the Philippine automotive market as it steps up its game, with the introduction of the MHEV.”

The integration of the mild hybrid technology allows the vehicle to have various EV functions such as idle start/stop, pure electric mode during coasting, and energy recycling through the regenerative braking system.

The Coolray’s big brother will also come with what Geely promises to be exciting styling, luxurious interior, and smart vehicle technologies. It is slated for market launch by the second quarter of 2020.
