The 2020 Nissan Almera Undergoes a Dramatic Transformation (w/ 11 Photos)

When it comes to sub-compact cars, the all-new Nissan Versa (aka Almera) is candidate for receiving the most dramatic transformation. Nissan describes their new small sedan as “energetic, provocative, and engaging” and based on the photos, it does look pretty impressive.

From the outside, it gains Nissan’s new “Emotional Geometry” design language which focuses on proportion and stance. Upfront, it has the signature V-motion grille and boomerang-shaped headlights, while at the back, it has kicked-up C-pillars and a “floating” roof design. Additionally, the wheels have been pushed out all for the sake of “lower, wider, longer.”

Inside, the 2020 Versa/Almera gets a heavily revised interior with the “Gliding Wing” concept. This design expands the feeling of space by using a more horizontal architecture together with wingspan-like elements. Nissan also says fit and finish is above class and includes nifty sporty touches like a D-shaped steering wheel.

For the U.S. market, the Versa gets a new-generation 1.6-liter engine that offers 122 horsepower and 154 Nm of torque mated to either a 5-speed manual or CVT. It also democratizes Nissan’s safety technology and will arrive with Nissan Intelligent Mobility features such as Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection, Rear Automatic Braking, Lane Departure Warning and High Beam Assist. Available equipment includes Blind Spot Warning, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Intelligent Driver Alertness, and Intelligent Cruise Control.

In terms of comfort features, the Versa gets a push-button engine start/stop, automatic climate control, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and more.

For the North American market, Nissan is rolling out the all-new Versa by the middle of the year. For the Philippines, however, it’ll probably take a bit more time given it is currently being assembled locally. Even if Nissan decides to move its production elsewhere (likely Thailand), the earliest time it will get to Philippine shores will be sometime in 2020.
